JJJ Engineering began informally in the pursuit of curiosity. After many years of playing guitar and drums in a wide variety of settings and musical groups, and after learning about the fine points of vintage guitar amps from some of the finest musicians around, I was curious about what makes a really old amplifier sound so much better than most modern commercially available amps.

I had tucked this curiosity away in the back of my mind as I began the Electrical Engineering curriculum at Mississippi State University, reconciling my natural mathematical aptitude with the desire for a fulfilling career in engineering. And so while deep in the laboratory study of electronic circuits, my old curiosity came to fruition in one instant. While viewing an output waveform on my test bench, I thought, "I want to know how that sounds." So I went home and got to work designing my own circuit using fundamental techniques. The result far exceeded my expectations, and quite simply, in that moment of awe and discovery, JJJ Engineering was born.
